New Delhi converting public call offices to multiservice kiosks

• 19 Aug 2008

(New Delhi) Business Standard: State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), in a partnership with chip maker Intel, is converting  its public call offices in Karnataka into information and transaction kiosks that offer multiple services. The kiosks, known as ePCOs, will be used for Web browsing, easy recharge of mobile phones, and ticket bookings. Going forward, ePCOs also will be permitted to transact utility payments for water, electricity and telephone. BSNL plans to have at least one ePCO in each of its 29 districts across the state on a pilot basis.
